Who We Are

The Institute for Nature and Environmental Conservation (INEC) recognizes that human beings depend on nature for food, clean water, medicine, and well-being.  The growing demand humans put on nature is causing a fast depletion of these natural resources. This has been termed as extinction crisis. The current crisis makes the future of the human race uncertain. INEC believes that global problem is best understood from the local context. Thus, localized pragmatic actions, if well coordinated and targeted, results in global impacts for nature and people. INEC work is built on three cardinal pillars (the 3C’s of INEC). Conservation, Collaboration, and Communities.

To protect critically vulnerable species and ecosystems, based on sound science and evidence, choosing approaches that are sustainable, and ensures the needs of communities are taken into account.

Our Three (3) C’s

Conservation

INEC aims to conserve all biodiversity (plants and animals) that face critical threats from human activities. INEC conservation actions are based on sound science and well documented evidence.

Collaboration

INEC recognizes that saving nature for future generations is an enormous task which cannot be achieved without the help and cooperation of many different institutions, including governments, law enforcement agencies, universities, donors, local and international NGO’s and above all religious and traditional leadership. INEC collaborates with these institutions to achieve the needed impacts.

Communities

Local communities lie central to our activities. We recognize that local communities who live closest to biodiversity are much dependent on it for their livelihoods. Our actions empower communities, provide alternative livelihoods and ensures sustainable development.

Our Objectives

  1. Conduct cutting edge research in the areas of biodiversity conservation, food security, climate change and natural resources management.
  2. Drive key policy formulation and enhancement in the areas of biodiversity conservation, food security, climate change, natural resources management and sustainable development.
  3. Provide expert training and capacity building for key stakeholders in the areas of biodiversity conservation, food security, climate change, and natural resources management.
